1650hrs, Monday 17 February 2014, two men entered the Post Office in Bilton and robbed it of an amount of cash. The Post Office in Bilton, which is situated on a busy main road, was the victim of a robbery by two unknown men. Luckily the Postmistress who was alone in the shop at the time, had just cashed up and only the coin dispenser remained behind the protective glass, when the two men entered the shop. The men, who were allegedly armed with some type of hammer, used physical force to break through the protective glass shielding the postmistress from the offenders.

Once the glass divider was broken, the coin dispenser was stolen.
The two men then got in to a car and drove off.
Due to the location of the Post Office and time of day, it is very likely a large amount of passing vehicles will have seen a blue coloured Mazda MX5 car parked outside the Post Office, then driving off, immediately after the incident.
Detective Inspector, Emma Heatley, in charge of the investigation said: “We are treating this incident as a robbery. The offenders did not leave with much cash; however the ordeal has left the postmistress terrified.
“We've established the men travelled to the Post Office in a blue coloured Mazda MX5, left it outside for only a few minutes whilst the offence took place, they then made off from the scene in the same car.
“As soon as the 999 call was made to the police, officers flooded the area to try and locate the vehicle or offenders. Within 30 minutes of the call coming into the police, we had located the car in Bilton, with its engine still running, but the offenders had fled.
“I still need the assistance from the public; have you seen a blue coloured Mazda MX5 in the area over the last week? Did you see this car parked along Main Road in Bilton sometime between 1600hrs and 1700hrs yesterday, did you see the people getting in or out of this car and can you provide a description of the men?
“The description of the men I have so far is that both men wore balaclavas, they are believed to have worn camouflage style jackets and both carried some type of hammer.
“This is the second armed robbery to have occurred in a Post Office in the East Riding this month. I made three arrests for the Hornsea Post Office armed robbery last week and I am appealing for people to come forward with regards to this robbery to assist in our investigation.
“This was a terrifying ordeal was for the Postmistress, who is being supported by ourselves and her family. The best thing I can do for her is to catch the men who did this. If you witnessed anything ‘odd’ in the Bilton area yesterday or have any information which may help me with my investigation please call Humberside Police on 101, quoting log number 489 of 17/02/14.
